Farr West

Farr West City Storage Shed Building Permit Requirements:

Farr West City does not require a building permit for any shed, playhouse or similar structure that is 200 sq. ft. and smaller. The Farr West Building Department webpage states the following under the "Know if a building permit is required" link:

Building permits are required for the following projects: 

  • Accessory buildings over 200 sq. ft.

This means that most sheds, chicken coops, playhouses and other outbuildings that are 200 sq. ft. or smaller do not require a permit unless you are adding utilities. If you have any questions we recommend contacting the Farr West Building Department by calling (801)731-4187

    Harrisville

    Harrisville City Storage Shed Building Permit Requirements:

    The Harrisville City website does not have any specific information about what sizes of sheds require a building permit.  However, most cities in Weber County have adapted the International Building Code which states that any buildings 200 sq. ft. and smaller do not require a building permit.

    Hooper

    Hooper City Storage Shed Building Permit Requirements:

    Hooper City does not require a building permit for any detached storage shed or similar structure that is 200 sq. ft. or smaller.  However, these sheds do require a site plan approval showing that all setback requirements are being met.  Buildings larger than 200 sq. ft. do require a building permit.  Below is an excerpt from the Hooper City Building Department webpage:

    A Building Permit is REQUIRED but not limited for the following:

    • Construction of any detached accessory building larger than 200 square feet or over 1 story in height regardless of construction type. (Structures less than 200 square feet require site plan approval) All structures less than 200 sq ft are required to have "site plan" approval.

    Huntsville

    Huntsville City Storage Shed Building Permit Requirements:

    Huntsville does not require a building permit for any detached sheds or accessory structures that are 200 sq. ft. or smaller. However, all structures larger than 200 sq. ft. require both a Land Use Permit and a Building Permit. Below is an excerpt from the Huntsville City Building Permits webpage:

    Any owner or authorized agent who intends to engage in new construction of a structure with a footprint 200 square feet or greater shall only commence work after first, having received a Land Use Permit from the Huntsville Planning Commission, and then, secondly, upon issuance of a Building Permit from the Huntsville Town Building Official or authorized delegate of the Huntsville Building Official.       North Ogden

      North Ogden City Storage Shed Building Permit Requirements:

      The North Ogden Building Dept. web page does not specifically state what sizes of sheds require a building permit; however, it does state that they have adopted the International Building Code which states that any buildings 200 sq. ft. and smaller do not require a building permit.  Some cities will require a permit to ensure that all setback and zoning regulations are being met but we have not been able to verify exactly what North Ogden's requirements. are.   If you have any information about this. please let us know so we can update our website.

      Ogden

      Ogden City Storage Shed Building Permit Requirements:

      Ogden City does not require a building permit for accessory building or sheds that are 200 sq. ft. or smaller. However these structures must still comply with the City Municipal Code regulations through a land use permit. Below is an excerpt from the Ogden City Building Permits webpage

      Obligations when Land Use permits required

      There are some construction or improvement activities, while not requiring a building permit, must still comply with the City Municipal Code regulations through a Land Use permit. Some of those items are:

      • Installing a driveway or an accessory vehicle parking area to your property
      • Installing a fence
      • Installing a detached accessory building to a residential property when 200 sq. ft or less in size

      Riverdale

      Riverdale City Storage Shed Building Permit Requirements:

      As far as we know, Riverdale City does not require a building permit for any sheds that are 200 sq. ft or smaller unless it has plumbing or electrical. All buildings larger than 200 sq. ft. will require a building permit. The city used to have a Building Permits Frequently Asked Questions webpage but they have made updates to their website and we have not been able to find this information anymore. The following information is from the previous FAQ webpage but we have not been able to confirm whether or not the city's policies have changed on sheds.

      Q Is a permit required to build a shed in Riverdale City?
      A Yes and No. If a permit is required, A fee based on the valuation of the structure will be assessed.
      Typically, a shed that is 200 square feet or less does not require a building permit unless some type of electrical or plumbing work will be completed. A shed that exceeds 200 square feet requires a building permit.

      Roy

      Roy City Storage Shed Building Permit Requirements:

      Roy City does not require a building permit for any storage sheds or other outbuildings that are 200 sq. ft. and smaller and are not taller than 10 ft. This information has been verified on the Roy City Building Permits & Inspection web page. Below is an excerpt from that page:

      Permits not required for:

      1. Detached accessory buildings with a maximum height of 10 feet and a maximum size of 200 square feet shall not require a building permit, provided:

      • All setback requirements for the zone in which the accessory building is located are met.
      • No portion of the accessory building extends over the property line.
      • No storm water runoff from the accessory building is allowed to run onto the adjacent property.

      South Ogden

      South Ogden City Storage Shed Building Permit Requirements:

      The city of South Ogden only requires a building permit on sheds or other accessory buildings that are larger than 200 sq. ft.  Below is an excerpt from the South Ogden Building & Inspections FAQ webpage:

      Is a permit required to build a shed in South Ogden City?

      Yes. A permit is required for sheds larger than 200 sq. ft.   Sheds 200 sq. ft. or less do not require a permit, however, the following guidelines must be adhered to.  Any shed found to be in non-compliance may be required to be removed. Also note that any shed built over a utility easement without written permission from the utility companies is also subject to removal.

      ACCESSORY BUILDING (SHED) GUIDELINES:

      • No accessory buildings are allowed in the front yard.
      • Accessory buildings located in the rear yard must be located not less than 6' (measured from eave to eave, not wall to wall) from the main building, not less than 1' from the property line (measured from eave) and no less than 10' from any building (eave to eave) located on an adjacent lot.
      • In addition, if an accessory building is to be located over utility easements, written permission must be obtained from the utility companies or easement holder to allow such placement. For utility company contact infromation, Click Here
      • You can get a copy of your lot with dimensions and easements from Weber County's web site. Go to www.co.weber.ut.us/psearch/ and search by either your last  name or address.
      • No accessory building may exceed 19' in height measured from finished floor to midway of roof, and no wall may exceed 10' measured from finished floor.
      • Accessory buildings are allowed in the side yard, but must be located at least 6' (eave to eave) from the main building and at least 10' from any buildings on an adjacent lot (eave to eave). In addition, they must also meet side yard setback requirements, which vary from 8'-10' depending on what zone the property is located in. (Please call 622-2709 for zoning information). Note that many side yards are not wide enough to accommodate an accessory building and still meet side yard setback requirements.

      Washington Terrace

      Washington Terrace City Storage Shed Building Permit Requirements:

      Washington Terrace Does not require a building permit for sheds that are 200 sq. ft. or smaller; However, a zoning compliance permit will be required for these buildings.  There is not a charge for these permits and they can be picked up at the city office.  More information on this will be shown below. This information has been verified on the city's Accessory Buildings (Shed) information sheet.  Below is an excerpt from that sheet:

      • HEIGHT 6 foot minimum may not exceed height of the main building on the lot or25 feet
      • FLOOR AREA A Zoning Compliance Permit is required for ashed under to squarefeet roof area There is no charge for this permit and the form can be picked up in theCommunity Development Department Sheds or other accessory buildings over ODsquare feet roof area will require a site plan to submit to the building department forapproval
      • PLACEMENT ON LOT Sheds and other accessory buildings must be 6 feet from the rear of the main building at least 6 feet from the dwelling on adjacent lots and 1 ft.from property lines On comer lots sheds and accessory buildings must not be constructed in the site triangle C foot from the comer intersection of lot lines All sheds should be placed anchored and placed on a concrete slab

      West Haven

      West Haven City Storage Shed Building Permit Requirements:

      The West Haven City website does not have any specific information about what sizes of sheds require a building permit.  However, the city's website does state that they have  adopted the International Building Code which states that any buildings 200 sq. ft. and smaller do not require a building permit. We have not been able to verify this information and we recommend contacting the West Haven Building Department for further information.
